What Is Botox Cosmetic?

Delicate muscles beneath the skin contract and cause the skin to fold when we make facial expressions.  As the years go by, these folds form permanent creases called "dynamic wrinkles."  Dynamic wrinkles deepen with age and often create a tired and stressed appearance.

The only way of effectively dealing with dynamic wrinkles is to prevent them from forming.  Botox/Dysport treatments offer individuals a smoother skin and a well-rested appearance, minimizing their dynamic wrinkles.  After treatment, the overlying skin lays flat and unwrinkled while the untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion, allowing normal facial expression to be unaffected. 

Botox/Dysport injections minimize dynamic wrinkles by relaxing the wrinkles on either side of the eyes, the vertical frown lines between the eyes, the forehead wrinkles, and/or other types of facial wrinkles.

This injection treatment usually lasts 3 to 4 months. The injections can be repeated as necessary when facial wrinkles reappear. Early and regular treatments can have a preventative effect, keeping existing wrinkles from getting worse, and inhibiting the formation of new wrinkles in sites that have been treated.

Prior to a treatment we ask that you avoid using aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John’s Wort, or high doses of Vitamin E as these products may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site.

The Injection Procedure

At our cosmetic skin care MedSpa in Northern Virginia, the injection procedure involves very low doses of Botox or Dysport Cosmetic in specific areas of the face. Minimal redness or swelling occurs following an injection. No anesthesia is required and the entire procedure usually takes less than 15 minutes.

After visiting our Spa for a Botox/Dysport Cosmetic treatment, you may immediately return to work and resume normal activities. The injection will gradually take effect in 2 to 10 days. It is important that you keep your head elevated (ie-do not lie down or bend over) for approximately 3 hours after the procedure.

Potential Risks

The most common side effects of Botox/Dysport Cosmetic injections include headache, flu-like symptoms, temporary eyelid droop, and nausea. At Vitalia MedSpa we use only FDA-approved Botox and Dysport Cosmetic.
