BOTOX® and Dysport®
Botox and Dysport are some of the most exciting advancements for the treatment of wrinkles, lines, and the aging face. These are both highly purified, naturally occurring proteins which have the ability to relax the muscles to which they are applied. This relaxation typically lasts 3 to 4 months, after which the treated muscles gradually return to their original condition. Botox and Dysport do not affect the nerves responsible for sensation, so there is no numbness in the treated areas. This treatment is performed in a manner not to alter your natural expression. It may take 2 to 14 days for the results to be noticeable.

What Is Botox Cosmetic?
Treating Dynamic Wrinkles with Botox: Delicate muscles beneath the skin contract and cause the skin to fold when we make facial expressions. As we age, these folds form permanent creases called "dynamic wrinkles." These deepen with age and often create a terse, stressed, and tired expression.
Botox treatments offer individuals with dynamic wrinkles smoother skin and a well-rested appearance. Treatment involves the injection of a minuscule amount of Botox that relaxes certain muscles and limits their ability to contract. After treatment, the overlying skin lays flat and unwrinkled while the untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion, allowing facial expression to be unaffected.
Botox injections temporarily remove crow's feet, vertical frown lines between the eyes, forehead wrinkles, and other types of facial wrinkles. Botox injections are non-surgical and minimally invasive.
The Botox Cosmetic solution is an FDA-approved substance that safely smooths specific muscles in the face that cause wrinkles. A Botox injection treatment usually lasts 3 to 4 months. Botox Cosmetic injections can be repeated as necessary when facial wrinkles reappear. Early and regular Botox treatments can have a preventative effect, keeping existing wrinkles from getting worse, and inhibiting the formation of new wrinkles in sites have been treated.
Prior to a treatment we ask that you avoid using aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John's Wort, or high doses of Vitamin E prior to taking treatment as these products may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site.
The Botox Injection Procedure
At our cosmetic skin care MedSpa in Northern Virginia, the Botox injection procedure involves very low doses of Botox Cosmetic in specific areas of the face. Minimal redness or swelling occurs following a Botox injection. No anesthesia is required and the entire procedure usually takes less than 15 minutes.
After Your Botox Treatment
After visiting our Spa for a Botox Cosmetic treatment, you may immediately return to work and resume normal activities. The Botox injection will gradually take effect in 2 to 10 days. It is important that you keep your head elevated (do not lie down or bend over) for approximately 3 hours after a Botox Cosmetic injection.
Potential Risks
The most common side effects of Botox Cosmetic injections include headache, flu-like symptoms, temporary eyelid droop, and nausea. At Vitalia MedSpa we use only FDA-approved Botox Cosmetic brand which is manufactured by Allergan.
